On October 24, Budapest Jungle welcomes a true pioneer of the genre as Rupert Parkes, aka Photek, steps behind the decks. Anyone who dove even slightly into the world of broken beats in the mid-nineties hardly needs an introduction to these surgically precise, samurai-vibed rhythms. With classics under his belt like the Metalheadz release The Hidden Camera EP or the Modus Operandi LP, Photek completely rewrote the rhythm formulas of jungle back in the day.
Standing out even among his dark, cinematic masterpieces—many drawing from Japanese culture—is Ni Ten Ichi Ryu, inspired by samurai swordsmanship. But epochal creations also include Rings Around Saturn, Consciousness, Rain, and Hidden Camera.
From his early era, it is also worth exploring the music he wrote under various aliases such as Aquarius, Studio Pressure, Special Forces, and many others.
Although in recent years he has mostly adventured in the world of Hollywood film scores, on this night he returns to the roots to show behind the decks where he stands today.
The lineup of local acts is also truly special. Cadik nowadays tends to explore the world of 140 bpm music, so his jungle set before Photek promises to be unique. Alongside him, the grand dame DJ Ren and representing the new generation, Emilio, will select the best of their tunes.
